HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ACTIVITY
The celebration of national women’s month in the municipality of El Nido was observed with day-long set of activities that aimed to touch the different facets involving womanhood. To put the aim into materialization, the commemoration of the event was consisted of five (5) parts, namely: Part 1 – Physical Fitness; Part II – Wellness and Beauty Care Contest; Part III – Women’s Parade; Part IV – Program Proper; Part V – Socials Night and Awarding of Certificates and Prizes.
The program kicked-off as early as 6:00 a.m with fun run and coastal clean-up activities. Registration of participants followed at 8:00 a.m which was held at the Municipal Covered Court. Manicure and haircut contest participated by the women representatives from the different barangays jumpstarted Part II of the celebration. Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. And Malampaya Foundation, Inc also took part in the celebration by opening a cooking contest for women participants with corresponding cash prizes for the winners. Free haircut was also given to all the women who wished to avail the service. Free Papsmear Test and Treatment for 500 women was also launched by the Rural Health Unit. In the afternoon, there was a women’s mass parade participated by all women employees of the LGU, DILG Officer, the women delegates from the 18 bgys., and selected high school students from El Nido National Central High school. After the parade, the program proper started. Municipal Agriculturist, Ms. Virginia D. Balderas, led the invocation, followed by the singing of the national anthem. Opening Message was given by the Municipal Social Work Development Officer/Event Committee Chairperson, Ms. Gloria C. Mones. Welcome remarks was given by Acting Municipal Vice-Mayor, Hon, Helson B. Gonzales. OIC-MLGOO/Event Committe Co-chair, Sherry Lyn G. Saac delivered her speech focusing on the theme—Kababaihan: Gabay sa Pagtahak sa Tuwid na Daan. Municipal Mayor, Hon. Edna Gacott-Lim rendered an inspirational message for the women participants. Right after the formalities was the start of the Field Demonstration Contest joined in by the women delegates of the participating barangays.
At around 6:30 p.m, dinner was served for all the participants. The Socials Night followed wherein women evidently enjoyed the dancing opportunities. Presentation of Certificates of Recognition for the 25 women barangay tanods was conducted as headed by the Municipal Mayor, OIC-MLGOO and MSWDO. Awards and prizes were then given to all the winners of the contests held earlier that day. The celebration finished with more merry
